2nd Gunman Sought In McKees Rocks Shootout

MCKEES ROCKS (KDKA) -- Authorities have arrested one suspect and are still searching for the second gunman after a shootout in McKees Rocks.

The shooting happened in the 700-block of Island Avenue near Cogo's convenience store Wednesday night.

Police say it resembled the Wild West.

"Two actors squared up on the sidewalk, stepped a few steps back away from one another and then opened fire on one another," McKees Rocks Police Chief Robert Cifrulak said.

A 23-year-old bystander who was with one of the shooters was shot in the thigh and taken to Ohio Valley Hospital.

Because part of the incident was caught on surveillance video, investigators were able to identify one of the men as 24-year-old Dewayne Whitaker, of McKees Rocks.

Allegheny County Police tracked him down to a home on Reed Street in Pittsburgh's Hill District and arrested him.

Whitaker faces charges including nine counts of reckless endangerment and discharging firearms into buildings.

Police need the public's help to identify the second gunman.

"We watched him tuck the gun into his pants," Cifrulak said.

Anyone with information is asked to call McKees Rocks Police at 412-331-7102 or Allegheny County Police at 412-473-3000.
