Officials Will Try To Rescue Alligator In Beaver Run Reservoir

BELL TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- After several days of public pressure, local officials say they will attempt to rescue an alligator that found its way into the Beaver Run Reservoir.

Initially, officials said they wouldn't save the gator.

Now they've asked officials at the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium if they can help rescue it.

"Recent reports of alligator sightings on the shoreline and concern for the public getting on the property to see the alligator have made the Authority reconsider its previous position on this alligator.

"The authority is concerned for the safety of the public and other animals and pets in the area," the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County said in a statement.

The authority plans to meet with the zoo next week to devise a plan.
