Teen Fires Shot At Grandma Outside Funeral Home

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A teenager from East Pittsburgh is facing charges after police say he fired a shot at his grandmother outside a local funeral home.

The incident happened shortly before 7:30 p.m. Thursday outside the Spriggs-Watson Funeral Home on Lang Avenue in Homewood.

According to authorities, the unidentified 17-year-old got into a fight with his mother and grandmother while attending a viewing for his great-grandfather.

"A young fellow was angry with his grandmother and his mother for the most part," Nathaniel Young, a worker at the funeral home, said.

As the women tried to calm him down in the parking lot, police say the juvenile pulled out a semi-automatic gun, fired a shot at his grandmother and took off.

"So when he came out, he pulled out a gun from somewhere and just started firing a couple shots," Young said. "We had to call the police and close the place down."

The teen is now facing a list of charges including recklessly endangering another person and aggravated assault in addition to drug and firearms violations. He is in the Allegheny County Jail.
