McArdle Roadway Reopens After Rockslide

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – McArdle Roadway has reopened after crews performed maintenance on the hillside.

The road was closed between the Liberty Bridge and Grandview Avenue on Mount Washington.

"Cleaning up behind the wall, opening up some drainage ditches behind the wall to give access to the catch basins and just that time of year we do preventive maintenance on that," Pittsburgh Public Works Director Rob Kaczorowski said.

On Friday, a small landslide closed the roadway.

The side of the hill is filled with abandoned coal mines and that triggers the runoff which cause slides.

"Our staff goes out and evaluates any time we have any type of slide on McArdle, so we'll got out and do an evaluation of the rock, the hillside and make sure it's still safe," Kaczorowski said.
