Route 28 Reopens After Crash

ASPINWALL (KDKA) – An accident on Route 28 caused major traffic delays during the Monday morning commute.

According to emergency dispatchers, the accident happened on the southbound side of the road shortly before 8 a.m.

Witnesses said the driver of a dump truck could not stop in time as cars slowed to allow traffic to merge from the Aspinwall onramp.

The dump truck ran into the back of a car with a mother and her young daughter inside.

"The car that got hit was swallowed up from basically the rear bumper to the back seat. [It] was basically sucked up underneath the truck," Scott Hemeon said.

After hitting the car, the dump truck driver ran to the ran to check on the occupants.

Witnesses said the girl had serious injuries and that three or four cars may have been involved.

Several other people were taken to the hospital as well, but there is no word on any of their conditions at this time.

The road was closed for about four hours as crews conducted their investigations, but it has since reopened.
