Officials Investigate Bank Robbery In Bethel Park

BETHEL PARK (KDKA) -- Authorities are investigating after a bank robbery this morning in Bethel Park.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. at the First Niagara Bank located in the 4400-block of Library Road.

The suspect showed a note to the teller and had his own bag for the money. He was able to get away. No one was injured.

This robbery could be connected to two others in our area this week – a Citizens Bank in McCandless on October 14 and another Citizens Bank at the Waterworks Mall on October 17.

"To me and to others in law enforcement, this appears to be a desperate act by a desperate person," Jeff Killeen, a spokesman for the FBI in Pittsburgh, said. "To take no action to cover one's identity up – it almost invites a capture."

"We would like to accommodate them," he added.

No one has seen the man use a weapon. They do have to act as if there is a threat of a gun at all times.

"He's interfering with business and more importantly, he's a danger," Killeen said. "He's a danger to the bank patrons, bank employees, law enforcement who may respond – he's a danger to himself as well."
