Man Dies After Police Chase Arrest

EAST DEER (KDKA) – One person died after a police chase in Allegheny County early Saturday morning.

According to emergency dispatchers, the chase began around 12:30 a.m. in Tarentum.

It ended when the suspect, identified by officials as 40-year-old Curtis Patterson, crashed his vehicle in East Deer near the New Kensington Bridge.

At that point, he got out of the vehicle and took off on foot.

Police found the man hiding in the woods nearby.

Following his arrest, Patterson went into cardiac arrest and died.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office reports that he choked on a plastic bag that he was apparently trying to swallow.

His death has been ruled accidental.
