Pickup Truck Crashes Into Cemetery Mausoleum

PENN HILLS (KDKA) - The peacefulness of a local cemetery was shattered this morning when a truck plowed crashed into a mausoleum.

According to police, the incident happened at the Mount Carmel Christian Cemetery in Penn Hills around 8 a.m.

The pickup truck left Mount Carmel Road, traveled roughly 250 yards across the grass and down a small embankment before slamming into the mausoleum.

The suspect got out of the truck and fled the scene on foot.

"He didn't ask for any help. Witnesses state he exited his vehicle, he walked away, then he came back. He took a work hat and his jacket and he walked away from the scene," Officer Preston Peterson said. "A couple of people tried to stop him, but he kept walking and they lost sight of him."

The building suffered significant damage, but no one was inside at the time.

However, two services were scheduled to take place in the building on Tuesday.

Police are having a difficult time trying to figure out who the suspect is.

The truck is registered to an older man, but witnesses described the suspect as a young man.

Anyone with information is asked to call Penn Hills Police.
