"Mr. High School Sports" - Friday Night Spotlights: Cox and Jayhawks Ready for Interstate Rivals

On paper there certainly isn't a lot separating two of the biggest rivals in Class AA. Offensively, Greensburg Central Catholic and Jeannette have been two of the most consistent teams in the classification, and each team's defense is allowing less than 13 points per game.

But if there is an x-factor when the Centurions (7-0, 8-0) take on the Jayhawks (7-0, 8-0) at McKee Stadium Friday night at 7:30 with the Interstate Conference title at stake, it could be dual-threat quarterback Demetrius Cox.

The Jeannette standout has racked up over 1,000 offensive yards, including 751 on the ground, and 11 touchdowns. He's also rated as one of the top 50 defensive backs in the country by MaxPreps and is, in fact, being heavily recruited as a defensive player, even in light of his obvious ability on the other side of the ball.

Greensburg Central Catholic is well aware of that ability, and Cox is well aware of what his team has to do to hold serve at home in its regular season finale.
