Springsteen, Grushecky Set To Play Soldiers & Sailors Hall

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Boss is back in Pittsburgh for two nights of concerts.

Tonight is the first of two concerts by Bruce Springsteen and Joe Grushecky at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland. The fun begins at 7:30 p.m.

The second show is set for Friday night, and both are sold out.

"We were just spending some time together this summer, and we were talking about how much fun we had last year, and he said he'd be up to doing another show," Grushecky said. "It's sort of an offer you can't refuse."

Grushecky says that Soldiers and Sailors Hall is a great place to play.

This is the second year in a row that Springsteen and Grushecky have played a pair of concerts at Soldiers and Sailors Hall.

Grushecky said playing one of his favorite Springsteen songs, "The Promised Land," with the Boss last year was a "really big thrill."

"[Springsteen] is tremendously talented, has God-given talent," Grushecky said. "And his power of concentration – he's focused."

A Pittsburgh native, Grushecky said he first met Springsteen while he was recording the album "Have a Good Time (But Get Out Alive)" in New York.

Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers now have a new CD coming out.

The live album, "We're Not Dead Yet," was recorded Sept. 16 and 17 at the New Hazlett Theater on the North Side. Grushecky said he thought this album had some of the band's best live performances with 21 songs in total.
