Officials Investigate Overnight Pursuit & Crash In Wilkinsburg

WILKINSBURG (KDKA) -- Police are investigating after an overnight police pursuit sent an SUV crashing into a home in Wilkinsburg.

The accident happened around 2 a.m. after the black Pontiac police were reportedly chasing made an illegal right turn up Glen Avenue, which intersects with Elm Street.

The car first slammed into an SUV, sending it rolling downhill. The car then crashed into a Lexus and after that took off.

"I looked out one window and [saw] the Explorer going down here, and I looked out the front window and I [saw] the black Grand Am stuck on the Lexus car and the Wilkinsburg police were right behind them and then they sped up the hill," said Maurice Johnson, a witness.

After the crash, the SUV continued to roll down a hill; it crossed over Glen Avenue and went through a wooded-area before careening into a home that had been converted into apartments.

"I mean, to see a blue truck going through the woods in the dark, and thank God nobody was… because people [are] usually outside like really late down there on that hillside," said Johnson.

The SUV hit Shanina Hinton's home. She was asleep when it happened, but the impact woke her up.

"Boom! The windows were shaking; the whole building shook," she said. "I thought there was an earthquake or something."

Police say the suspect took off during a traffic stop.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Hinton's home is okay, but both vehicles were destroyed.
