Woman Seriously Injured After Jeep Hits Garbage Truck

MOUNT LEBANON (KDKA) -- A woman was seriously injured when her vehicle collided with a garbage truck this morning in Mount Lebanon.

The Mount Lebanon Police Department is investigating the accident that happened just after 7 a.m. at the intersection of Cochran Road and Osage Road.

Police say the 41-year-old woman suffered severe head injuries in the accident.

The road was closed into the afternoon while officials investigated at the scene.

According to police, the woman was headed south on Cochran Road when her Jeep Wrangler suddenly spun into the path of the oncoming garbage truck.

Investigators say they believe ice on the road may have contributed to the accident. According to initial reports, the cold temperatures this morning may have caused water that was on the roadway to freeze.

The woman was treated by paramedics at the scene and then transported to UPMC Mercy Hospital. There is no word on her condition.
