Greensburg Murder-Suicide Remains Under Investigation

GREENSBURG (KDKA) -- More details are coming out about an apparent murder-suicide in Westmoreland County.

Mary Russo, 53, and her son, Matthew Russo, 21, both of Brentwood, were found dead inside a car in the parking lot of the Red Lobster along Route 30 in Greensburg. They both died from gunshot wounds.

Pennsylvania State Police and the Westmoreland County Coroner aren't saying who pulled the trigger as they investigate some unusual circumstances.

Matthew Russo was a junior education major at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe.

"He was a very level-headed, well-liked young man," Br. Norman Hipps, president of Saint Vincent College, said.

Br. Hipps says sadness has spread over the campus.

"At our campus ministry office, there were so many classmates and friends stopping and saying, you know, 'This just doesn't make any sense,'" he said.

At Saint Vincent College, they said there was no sign of trouble in Matthew's life.

"His mother came up to pick him up to go out for a meal at Red Lobster," Br. Hipps said.

On Matt Russo's Facebook page, many are posting their condolences.

Br. Hipps remembers the last time he saw Matt. It was at a children's Christmas program last Saturday.

"Matt played Santa Claus, so he had these little children on his lap asking them what they would like to have for Christmas," he said.

Saint Vincent College is planning to hold a memorial for Matt Russo.
