Pens Assistant Granato Rumored For LA Job

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Penguins assistant coach Tony Granato had his name thrown into the rumor mill shortly after the Los Angeles Kings fired head coach Terry Murray Monday.

Granato was formerly head coach of the Colorado Avalanche in the Western Conference. The Penguins have not commented on the rumors.

Dennis Bernstein of The Fourth Period was the first to report Granato's possible candidacy for the Kings job via Twitter.

Granato has strong ties to management in Los Angeles. He played for Kings general manager Dean Lombardi in San Jose and also has ties to vice president Jeff Solomon.

John Stevens has been named interim coach of the Kings. Los Angeles has recently lost four games in a row and dropped to 11th place in the Western Conference.
