4-1-Zoo: Three Coaches Get Interviews

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Pitt is moving quickly on naming a new head football coach and has reportedly interviewed two coaches while scheduling a third for Saturday.

According to the Post-Gazette's Paul Zeise, Pitt interviewed Ohio State defensive coordinator/interim head coach Luke Fickell Thursday. Florida International coach Mario Cristobal interviewed today.

Wisconsin offensive coordinator Paul Chryst is scheduled to interview on Saturday.

Fickell is an up-and-comer that has done a commendable job at Ohio State in the wake of a scandal that got Jim Tressel fired. Cristobal is looked at by most as one of the top coaching candidates in the country, and Chryst — who interviewed with Pitt after Dave Wannstedt was fired — has a long track record of success at Wisconsin.

With Chryst scheduled for Saturday, there's not likely to be a decision until after he meets with the university. There's no word on if other candidates will interview for the job as well.

You can read my earlier post of all names rumored for the Pitt job here.

Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads, who was viewed by many as the top candidate for the Pitt job once Todd Graham left for Arizona State, signed a 10-year, $20-million extension today to remain coach of the Cyclones.
