Fire Damages Former McKeesport Church

McKEESPORT (KDKA) -- The fire marshal will investigate a blaze that damaged a former church in McKeesport overnight. Flames engulfed the former Agape Fellowship Church around midnight.

An off-duty police officer saw the smoke in the building along 5th Avenue and called in the alarm

By the time firefighters arrived, they found flames shooting from the second floor of the building.

"As far as we know, the utilities have been cut off at this facility since 2008, so it's been vacant for a while," McKeesport Deputy Fire Chief Ed Harmon told KDKA-TV. "It [doesn't] look like it's been used. It's been vacant for a little while now."

The deputy chief says anytime a building is vacant, the fire is always considered to be suspicious, so the fire marshal will investigate.
