1 Dead, Others Wounded In Duquesne Shooting

DUQUESNE (KDKA) – One young man was killed and seven others were wounded after a shooting and fight broke out during a party at a home in Duquesne late Saturday night.

The incident happened on Fifth Avenue shortly before midnight. So far, no arrests have been announced in the case.

According to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office, the victim, 18-year-old Drew Henderson Bracey, died of multiple gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead around 1:30 a.m. at McKeesport Hospital.

Seven others were wounded and transported to hospitals.

The homeowner said the shooter was an outsider.

"My daughter turned 16," said Ebony Hawkins, the homeowner. "She had a Sweet 16 party, and someone at 10 minutes till 12 before the party was over pushed their way through and opened fire on me and some kids."

In addition to the shooting, officials say a huge fight involving a few dozen people spilled out onto the street and police from several neighborhoods were called in to help quell it.

"Police tried to disperse them to leave the place so they could do their work and they don't permit it," said Edwin Lewandowski, a neighbor.

Friends say Bracey will be missed. was a student at East Allegheny High School. They don't believe he was a target in the incident.

"He wasn't into nothing like... that's why bullets don't got no name," Dontez Peoples, a friend of the victim, said.

The house has been the scene of a previous fatal shooting. In February of 2009, a Duquesne police officer shot and killed an intruder who had reportedly broken in, and then threatened the officer.

The conditions of those hospitalized are unknown at this time. Allegheny County police have taken over the investigation.
