4-1-Zoo: Khem Birch Interested In Returning To Pitt?

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Freshman center Khem Birch might be regretting his decision to leave Pitt after all.

Just days after leaving the basketball program, a report surfaced Wednesday night that Birch might ask to return. That is, if Pitt coach Jamie Dixon will allow it.

SNY.tv's Adam Zagoria reported via Twitter Wednesday night that a Pitt source said Birch might be interested in returning to Pitt. Birch hasn't reached out to Dixon since leaving Pitt late last week.

This is worth noting because Zagoria is very credible and is a highly respected Big East and NBA writer. His word is reliable.

Birch would have to sit out the rest of the year if he is released from his scholarship and transfers to another university. As far as anyone knows, Birch has not officially been released from his scholarship at Pitt, making his return a possibility.

However, the big factor would be getting Dixon's approval if Birch does indeed desire to return to Pitt. Dixon let him leave last week and has repeatedly said he doesn't expect Birch to return. Thus, he wouldn't comment on any hypothetical situation in which Birch might return and a decision would have to be made.

Birch also has the choice of sitting out the entire year and entering the NBA Draft. Although he has just 10 games of college experience under his belt, the NBA is known to draft largely on potential and there's no doubt Birch has loads of that to go around.
