CORAOPOLIS (KDKA) — A woman is dead after she was struck by a train overnight in Coraopolis.

Officials say the initial call about the accident came in around 3 a.m. It’s believed someone on board the train may have made the call to Allegheny County 911.

The accident happened along the tracks near Kendall Avenue.

KDKA’s Heather Abraham reports that investigators believe the woman may have been sitting on the tracks just before she was struck.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim.

Coraopolis police, Allegheny County investigators and CSX officials responded to the scene.

The investigation continues.

Meantime, officials say train traffic in that area has been halted this morning, possibly until 10 p.m.
