Father, 2 Kids Rescued From Cliff In Moon Twp.

MOON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A man and his two young boys are safe and warm after having to be rescued off a ledge 200-feet over Route 51.

Mark Koeppen, 6-year-old Ian and 8-year-old Will are here from Virginia visiting relatives and went hiking to find a good view of the Sewickley Bridge.

Koeppen says he realized they couldn't make their way back up the hill and there was a cliff somewhere below. He decided to call 911.

He wound up talking to Moon Township Police Sgt. Douglas Busch, who fortunately was familiar with the cliff because he had trained on it.

Koeppen was instructed to move to an area just below where he was, as Moon Township firefighters began scaling the cliff and stringing rope.

The firefighters met the family halfway and brought them to safety.

The youngest boy was cold and crying at one point, according to Koeppen, but everyone is in good shape now.

Koeppen wants to thank the police, the fire department and Valley Ambulance for all their help.
