Homewood Man Charged With Rape

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A 33-year-old Homewood man faces rape, aggravated assault and unlawful restraint charges, among others, after police say he beat up and raped a 45-year old woman at his Lyric Street home.

Devarian Smith is being held on $250,000 bail.

The victim's daughter flagged down police at the Zone 5 station in East Liberty, after her mother called her on the phone when she managed to leave Smith's home.

The victim told police she and Smith had had an on-again, off-again romantic relationship since last July. She said he went off the deep end early Tuesday morning after accusing her of cheating on him.

She claimed she was punched, choked, stomped on and beaten with a baseball bat by Devarian.

She quoted Devarian as saying, "'I'm going to kill you."

Police said the woman appeared to have broken bones and facial fractures, but she refused medical treatment, saying that she wanted to go home.
