Former Penn State AD Tim Curley Has Lung Cancer

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Former Penn State Athletic Director Tim Curley has lung cancer.

The cancer was discovered in June of 2010 and half of his lung was removed, according to a statement from his wife, Melinda Curley.

"He has not required chemotherapy or radiation, however, doctors continue to monitor his condition. During this difficult time, Tim did not want his health to be a distraction and has been dealing with this privately. We are thankful for all the love and support he has received from family and friends and continue to hope for a full recovery. "

His attorney, Caroline Roberto, also released a statement.

"Mr. Curley did not want his personal health issues to overshadow or minimize the serious legal issues at hand. However, despite his illness, Mr. Curley has remained totally focused on doing whatever is necessary to demonstrate that he is not guilty of the crimes with which he has been charged."

In November, Curley stepped down as athletic director after allegations against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky came to light in a grand jury presentment.

Curley has been charged with perjury.
