9-Year-Old Accidentally Shot In McKees Rocks

MCKEES ROCKS (KDKA) – A 9-year-old boy was injured in an accidental shooting in McKees Rocks, but was allegedly told to lie to police about it.

According to police, the shooting took place at 11 McKee Street around 11:30 p.m.

Initial reports indicated that the boy was shot in the leg and that police were looking for two men who fled the scene.

However, police told KDKA-TV's Ross Guidotti that the initial reports were fabricated and that the boy was accidentally shot by his 13-year-old sister.

A man in the home allegedly told the children to lie to police about what happened because he was on probation and was not allowed to have firearms.

The man has been identified as 39-year-old Shawn Moore.

Their mother, Tawanda Wiley, is also believed to have told the kids to lie to the police about what happened.

The boy told police that he was taking out the garbage, saw two men arguing and was shot.

When police arrived at the scene, they noticed a large amount of blood in the home and a spent shotgun shell.

Police were able to find the shotgun in question several buildings away from the home. It is believed that Moore allegedly had someone remove it from the home after the incident.

Moore was arrested for probation violations and placed in the Allegheny County Jail. He will likely face firearms charges as well as additional charges of endangering the welfare of a child.

According to police, both Moore and Wiley have faced numerous child endangerment charges in the past.

Police got a break in the case when the 13-year-old girl said, "I cannot lie to police," and told the truth about the incident.

At this time, no charges have been filed against Wiley.

The boy is expected to recover from his injuries.
