Overnight Fire Destroys Home In Forward Township

FORWARD TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- An intense fire destroyed a home, causing the walls to collapse, and damaged another overnight in Forward Township.

According to the Forward Township Police Department, officers and the township's fire department were called to the 300-block of Bunola River Road just after 1:30 a.m. The homes are located on a hill.

Authorities say someone driving in that area spotted the flames and smoke and called 911 to alert authorities.

The intense heat from the blaze eventually caused the walls of the home to collapse. Only four brick chimneys and the front porch were left standing after the fire was brought under control.

According to the Allegheny County Real Estate website, the structure was built back in 1850.

The fire also melted and damaged the siding on the neighboring house, which police say is about 50 feet behind the other home.

Authorities say the structure where the fire started was unoccupied, but the utilities were still turned on. According to officials, the person who owns both homes lives in the neighboring residence.

Investigators said this morning that they were trying to reach her because she is currently on vacation in Hawaii.

No injuries were reported.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
