Man In Custody After Fatal Stabbing In Carnegie

CARNEGIE (KDKA) - A man has been taken into custody in connection with the stabbing death of his girlfriend in their Carnegie home Wednesday morning.

According to police, the incident happened in the 100-block of Railroad Avenue around 4:30 a.m.

Police were initially called to the home for a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, they found the victim on the second floor.

"This appears to be a domestic situation that turned violent. When they got there, they found a 36-year-old female had been stabbed. She was deceased," Carnegie Police Chief Jeff Harbin said.

Neighbors and authorities identified the victim as Melissa Bowers.

"We did take into custody a 26-year-old male. He was brought to our station," Chief Harbin said.

According to police, the suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Jeffery Allen Maloy.

"Oh, imagine getting a knock at the door and someone saying they killed somebody," a neighbor said.

Maloy allegedly ran to a neighbor's house shortly after the stabbing. The neighbor said Maloy was drunk, had blood on him and was crying.

"Yeah they're known for a little bit a trouble with each other. Seemed like they were working it out. I would never imagine him going this far. It's amazing," the neighbor said.

Police took Maloy to jail while detectives searched for evidence at the murder scene. The unfortunate neighbor tried to take all this morning's horror in.

"I worked with Jeffery. I also knew Melissa very well. It's a sad story. My heart goes out to the family and her children. I'll never forget this day," he said.

Maloy is expected to be formally charged with homicide later in the day.

Bowers' two children were not home at the time of the incident.
