Home Destroyed By Fire In North Versailles

NORTH VERSAILLES (KDKA) -- A man lost everything this morning when his North Versailles home caught fire.

Allegheny County fire marshals were assisting in the investigation, but early this morning the cause was still unknown.

North Versailles Fire Chief Jeff McNeill said when crews first arrived, the house on London Avenue was completely engulfed.

"It was a defense attack," said Chief McNeill. "We couldn't enter the building; so we just surrounded it with water."

The homeowner was at work and not at home when the fast-moving fire broke out around 6:15 a.m.

Neighbors tried desperately to save the man's two dogs; but unfortunately, could only rescue one.

"We tried to kick in the side door to get the second dog, but the house was already engulfed and we weren't able to get the puppy out," said Scott Snyder, who worked with the help of the next door neighbor and North Versailles Police.

The Red Cross will be helping the homeowner.
