Missing Teacher Found Dead, Husband Hospitalized

GREENSBURG (KDKA) -- A missing Westmoreland County teacher was found dead and now her husband is in the hospital after sources say he tried to commit suicide.

David Stahl, the husband Rebecca Stahl, was admitted to a hospital in Greensburg. He is listed in good condition at Excela Health and will go through a mental health evaluation.

His 37-year-old wife was found dead in Unity Township off Bells Church Memorial Road. She was reported missing earlier this week. An autopsy was completed, but the results were not released.

"We're working on trying to find out why she died and if it gets labeled a homicide or a murder then from there we'll try and develop a suspect and ultimately arrest the person that did it," State Trooper Steve Limani said.

No one has been arrested, but her brother, Tom Anderson, made a statement on behalf of the family.

"My sister Becky was a wonderful, wonderful person," he said. "Loving, caring, great teacher as I understand it, a wonderful sister, wonderful daughter, wonderful wife who did not deserve any of this."

The Stahls wed in 2008. They had a stormy relationship before and after getting married, according to court records.

The couple had no children. Rebecca recently adopted two Golden Retrievers. Friday afternoon, State police removed the dogs from the couple's Hempfield Township home.

"The family is going to stick together, stay strong, make sure that justice is done," Anderson said.

The Derry Area School District, where Stahl was a middle school math teacher, expressed their condolences in a statement:

"The Derry Area School District family is in mourning as we have lost one of our own. Rebecca Stahl was an outstanding educator, a warm & compassionate individual, and a mentor and friend to many of us. She will be sorely and deeply missed by all. Our hearts and prayers go out to her loved ones during this most difficult of times. We will provide all necessary support to our staff and students as we mourn the loss of our beloved teacher & friend."
