Missing Armored Truck Employee Sought For Questioning, Victim Identified

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The victim in a fatal shooting in the Strip District has been identified as police search for a missing employee.

Pittsburgh Police say Kenneth John Konias, Jr., 22, may be armed with two semi-automatic pistols and driving a tan Ford Explorer with the PA license plate GZW-4572. His last known address was in Dravosburg. Authorities have not called him a suspect.

The shooting apparently happened inside a GARDA armored vehicle under the 31st Street Bridge.

The shooting victim has been identified as 31-year-old Michael Haines from East McKeesport. His body may have been in the back of the armored truck for more than an hour before it was found by another employee.

Haines and Konias were employees of GARDA. Armored truck workers usually work in pairs, which is why police want to find Konias. Police have issued a BOLO alert.

According to people who work in the area, it's not unusual to see armored trucks parked under the bridge because their headquarters are near there.

Police say they don't know if any money is missing yet because there's so much of it in the truck.

Meantime, a spokesperson for GARDA said the company is shocked by what happened and is doing everything possible to cooperate with police and their investigation.
