Father: Saltsburg Baby, Sister Had Bruises

SALTSBURG (KDKA) -- State police are investigating the death of a 16-month-old boy in Indiana.

The little boy was rushed to Latrobe Hospital Monday after being found unresponsive in the home where he was visiting his mother and her boyfriend.

"I asked how my son was and they said he was, you know, not there and I lost it," Jonthan Jozefczyk, the boy's father, said.

Colby Jozefczyk had bruises on his arms and face and a new bruise on his forehead when he was pronounced dead.

"He was just my boy – that's all I can say – he was my boy," Jozefczyk said.

His 3-year-old sister also had extensive unexplained bruising on her body and had to be taken to the hospital.

"They're bad," Jozefczyk said. "I mean, they're covering [her buttocks]. They're almost I'd say quarter of the way down her leg and they look like handprints."

State police served a search warrant at the Saltsburg home of the children's mother. They were looking for phone records and other items that could provide clues as to how Colby died and his sister was injured.

Police list criminal homicide and simple assault as the suspected violations on the search warrant.

The children's father tells KDKA they have come home with bruises after going to their mother's house in the past. Jonthan Jozefczyk says he does not know where the bruises came from, but does want answers.

The coroner has not released a cause or manner of death.

No charges have been filed.
