UPMC Remembers Victims Of Western Psych Tragedy

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- One week following the shooting spree at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic that killed one person and injured seven others, UPMC took time to remember.

At 2 p.m., the health system spent two minutes in silence to remember the victims, including 25-year-old Michael Schaab, a therapist who was killed.

He was laid to rest earlier this week.

"We will take this time to offer support for the loved ones of Michael Schaab and wish speedy recoveries to our injured associates," UPMC said in a statement.

Four people remain in the hospital. Two are listed in fair condition and two others are in good condition.

The gunman, John Shick, was killed during a shootout with University of Pittsburgh police officers.

Sources say police found evidence indicating a premeditated attack – maps of street routes and diagrams of floor plans.

There were also rants against his doctors posted to the walls and inside journals.
