Local Woman Wins HGTV Dream Home Contest

ACME (KDKA) -- Vicki Naggy says she always missed the lottery by at least one number.

But when HGTV came knocking on the door of her Acme, Westmoreland County, home at 9:38 p.m. on March 5, she knew her luck had changed.

"We're running down the hall and all I could see was these great big giant lights shining in my house," she said.

Vicki is the winner of this year's "HGTV Dream Home" grand prize. Her name was drawn from more than 81 million entries.

"I went crazy that day," she said. "I was shaking. I was shaking so bad because I was a nervous wreck."

Vicki, 50, a hair stylist at Fantastic Sam's, grew up in Youngwood – the youngest of 11. Her husband, Bill, is a retired laborer.

They have two grown daughters and four grandchildren. She had to keep her win a secret until the show aired this past weekend.

"I was bursting trying to keep quiet about it," she said. "It was awfully hard especially at work with all my friends and all my wonderful customers."

With its mountain views, Vicki's new, completely furnished $2.3 million, 4,000-sq. ft., three-bedroom, four and a half bath home on the Provo River near Park City, Utah, has an outdoor living room, hot tub, sauna and more.

"A place I think that we can go, relax and enjoy life," she said.

She also wins a 2012 GMC Terrain SUV plus $500,000 in cash.

"That would have to go to taxes absolutely," she said.

Vicki says it was her intuition that drove her to enter the contest twice a day, every day since January.

Next month Vicki and Bill will fly to Utah for the key ceremony. It will be Bill's first plane ride.

Until then, she's keeping her new found celebrity in perspective.

"I'm trying. I'm trying," she said. "I ask the Lord to help me with that definitely."

Vicki Naggy says she likes her life the way it is – and that's a lucky woman!
