Doctors Express Medical Care Center Opens In Shaler

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A newcomer to the Pittsburgh area in the urgent medical care trend is a Maryland-based company called Doctors Express.

Like others in the area, such as MedExpress and UPMC Urgent Care, Doctors Express will offer walk-in service and extended hours if you have a cold or a sprain or something that needs immediate attention, but isn't life-threatening or chronic.

"We want to be available when their offices are closed, after hours and on the weekends," said Dr. Byron Berge, a family practitioner at Doctors Express.

In addition, they'll have some common medications on hand, and you can have blood work and x-rays done, too.

"It's neat, it's handy," said x-ray patient Joe Baczek about the center's location.

The difference is at Doctors Express, you will be seen by a doctor, not a nurse practitioner or physician's assistant.

"We want patients to have the best experience possible, and we believe by having physicians here, they get that," said Dr. Berge.

Doctors Express has locations in two dozen states. The one here is in Shaler.

Dr. Vincent Morreale saw the opportunity to add the franchise alongside his established Shaler chiropractic practice.

Doctors Express has been open less than a month, and already they're seeing 20-some patients a day, with the eventual goal of 60-some. They're open 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., seven days a week, and they take most insurances.
