7 Charged In Connection To Lower Burrell Police Officer's Shooting Death

GREENSBURG (KDKA) -- Seven people are facing charges in connection to the shooting death of Lower Burrell police officer Derek Kotecki.

Kotecki was killed after he was ambushed by 33-year-old Charles Post, a fugitive, in the parking lot of the Dairy Queen in the 300-block of Greensburg Road back in October.

The Westmoreland County District Attorney's office has filed charges of hindering apprehension and criminal conspiracy against Chad Post, Amanda Christyn Walters and Nicole Martha Walters.

They allegedly helped Charles Post evade authorities because he was wanted for charges including, aggravated assault and criminal attempt to commit homicide after allegedly firing about a dozen shots at his former boss.

Four others – Robert Zentner, Meryl Smith, Nevin Lawson and James Ameris III are facing charges related to the .40 caliber gun used to kill Officer Kotecki.

The district attorney filed charges of illegal transfer in relation to the gun.
