PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — It was a day of honor for some of our nation’s heroes.

Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland inducted its newest members into the Hall of Valor on Sunday.

The award goes to Pennsylvania veterans who have received medals for bravery and heroism during military conflicts.

“I was surprised to be able to be honored,” said Army PFC Alexander Kormos, a Silver Star medal recipient. “I was wounded, and then… I didn’t want to give up my gun position. You don’t think about stuff like that. It just happens.”

So far, the museum has recognized nearly 700 veterans for their efforts.
