Whitehall Man In Custody, Wife Found Dead

WHITEHALL (KDKA) -- A Whitehall man is in police custody and his wife is dead after a bizarre incident Saturday afternoon.

A 911 call led Whitehall police to 1146 Brant Drive. When they arrived an elderly man was standing in the cul-de-sac with a bloody knife.

Neighbors told KDKA's Kym Gable the man had blood on his face and was yelling at officers.

Whitehall Chief Donald Dolfi said, "Verbal commands were given to drop the knife, which were not listened to, and the officer ended up administering a Taser."

Inside the home, they found his wife's body on the first floor. She had suffered a stab wound and other injuries, according to Chief Dolfi.

The man was placed in custody and taken to Mercy Hospital.

Neighbors say Joe and Carol Manning lived in the home.

"It's surprising to see something like this. I know they were quiet people," neighbor Mark Miklas said. "Of all the people, they kept to themselves quite a bit."

Crime Scene Investigators processed several items found in the street, including a bloody knife, a pair of blue jeans and a cell phone.

Police have not yet confirmed whether formal charges have been filed.
