Bucs: Hanrahan Out With Hamstring Tightness
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) -- Pirates closer Joel Hanrahan was passed over for last night's save because of hamstring tightness, which could keep him out until Friday.
Hanrahan is officially listed as day-to-day. He reportedly tweaked his hamstring on his final pitch at San Francisco Sunday.
"I just felt a little tightness, kind of like a cramp," Hanrahan told the Post-Gazette Tuesday night. "It's been a little tight still."
The Pirates have their final game at Arizona this afternoon before coming back to Pittsburgh for a three-game series against St. Louis. Juan Cruz was used as the team's closer Tuesday night and pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to earn the save.
He'll likely be used in the closer role until Hanrahan returns.
Starting pitcher Jeff Karstens was injured Tuesday night. He'll be reevaluated Thursday.
