Murrysville Neighborhood On Alert In Wake Of Burglaries

MURRYSVILLE (KDKA) -- People living in the Meadowbrook area of Murrysville usually feel safe, but recently that sense of security has been shaken by daytime burglaries.

Three homes in the neighborhood have been hit in recent months – thieves prying open doors then taking jewelry, TV's and other valuables.

Murrysville police say there have been a couple of burglaries in other parts of the municipality as well, but they are urging people in Meadowbrook to take extra precautions like keeping their doors and windows locked at all times.

"I'm a little paranoid. I have outdoor lighting now I didn't have before," George Matcuk said. "I have all my other exterior doors blocked with doors under the handles and then at night I have my portable one in the front and I have a burglary alarm system."

Matcuk, who has lived in the neighborhood for 27 years, is even taking it a step further.

He sent emails to everyone on his street, warning them about what's going on and asking them to keep an eye on each other's homes.

"We go away on occasion and the fact that someone breaking in in the middle of the night – you don't know what could happen," he said. "… It could escalate into something a lot more than just a burglary."
