Local Oceans Seven Swimmer Swims Strait Of Gibraltar
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - Delmont-native Darren Miller is more then halfway through achieving a swimming milestone only few have attempted - finishing the Oceans Seven, the open water swimming's version of the Seven Summits, which is a competition to climb the highest mountains in each of the seven continents.
To complete the Oceans Seven, you must be able to swim the English Channel (between England and France), the North Channel (between Scotland and Ireland), the Catalina Channel (between Catalina Island and the Southern Californian mainland, USA), the Molokai Channel (between Oahu and Molokai islands in Hawaii, USA), the Tsugaru Channel (between Honshu and Hokkaido islands in Japan), the Cook Strait (between North and South Islands in New Zealand) and the Strait of Gibraltar (between Spain and Morocco).
Darren has already swum the English Channel, Catalina Channel, and Molokai Channel, and now he just completed the Strait of Gibraltar and he calls KDKA-AM's Larry and John an hour after he completed the feat. Darren talks about the challenges of swimming so far, how he trains, and the cause he is swimming for.
