2 Water Main Breaks Flood Beaver Co. Woman's Basement

BEAVER FALLS (KDKA) -- A Beaver County woman says she has nowhere to turn after her house flooded twice in one day.

Colleen White's neighbor called her at work to tell her about her yard being flooded. When she got home, the water was not only in her yard, but in her basement as well.

Beaver Falls officials say the flooding was caused by a sudden or accidental break in a water line outside of White's Second Avenue home in the Eastvale area.

White's insurance company says it was the municipality's fault and neither wanted to help, so she cleaned up the mess herself.

Crews repaired the break at about 5 p.m. and left the scene only to return a few hours later when a second break just a few feet down occurred sending even more water into her basement.

White then took the issue up with the Beaver Falls municipal manager who told KDKA-TV that while the city isn't responsible for taking care of the issue, he's going to send a restoration company.

"I don't know how two fans are going to help with five inches of water in my basement," White said. "That doesn't clean up any of the mold that could happen. I mean, a fan might dry it, but if mold starts to grow, you need to clean that with bleach. Things could happen further down the road."
