Fliers Promoting Cock Fight Upset Greene Co. Commissioners

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Several elected officials are outraged after they were named as sponsors for a cockfighting match.

The handwritten flyer advertises a cock fight on May 12, 2012, and claims it is sponsored by the Greene County Commissioners.

"This is definitely not anything sanctioned, affiliated with Greene County in any way, shape or form," Greene County Commissioner Pam Snyder said.

The commissioners took the story to a local newspaper to inform the public after fliers started showing up in mailboxes.

"Cockfighting is illegal," Snyder said. "Putting something in somebody's mailbox is illegal – federal offense."

Plus, the flyer wrongfully lists the name and phone number of a county employee as the main contact.

"It's mean spirited to me," Snyder said. "I know there are folks who would find humor in this – I don't think it's funny."

The event would be held in Washington Township next to an alleged sex camp known as the dungeon. One flyer was found at the bulletin board at the Ruff Creek General Store.

"I took it down," a clerk said. "It just isn't right. It's wrong and it's offensive."

While it's offensive and illegal, the person who wrote the flyer misspelled sponsor as "sponsered."

"If the county were involved we would have spelled the words correctly," Snyder added.
