Violence Discussed At Homestead Council Meeting

HOMESTEAD (KDKA) -- The recent violence in Homestead dominated the conversation at a Homestead council meeting Thursday night.

Three teenagers were shot last Sunday at the Charlie Batch Playground and a fourth teenager was shot late Wednesday night.

The activity is believed to be gang-related.

"Thank God no one passed recently, but who knows what's going to happen in the future," Pastor Keith Kaufold said.

One of the challenges, people say, is getting the community, mayor and council to work together.

"The police cannot be everywhere – we know that, so if we see something we should be able to want to tell, but also knowing that we feel comfortable enough to tell it," Wanda Burwell, who lives in Homestead, said.

Mayor Betty Esper says she plans to hold a town hall meeting about the violence in the next few weeks.
