Recall Of "Farmer's Market" Lettuce Expands

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The list of packaged lettuce being voluntarily recalled is growing.

River Ranch Fresh Foods added six more items to the list this weekend.

The products are sold in Giant Eagle stores under "The Farmer's Market" brand name.

The new items have "Best By" dates between May 12 and May 29. Those dates can be found in the upper right hand corner of the bags.

The varieties include European Blend, Chopped Romaine, Cole Slaw Kit Dressing, Angel Hair Cabbage, Two-Color Cole Slaw Mix and Italian Blend.

That's in addition to the varieties that were recalled Friday.

Those include Garden Supreme, Garden Salad, Leafy Romaine, American Salad, Parisian Blend, Romaine Garden Salad and Shredded Lettuce.

The lettuce is being recalled because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The bacteria primarily affects older adults, pregnant women, young children and people with weakened immune systems.

Symptoms include high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Officials with River Ranch say there have been no reported illnesses.

Customers can return the lettuce to the store for a refund.

If you have questions, River Ranch has a 24-hour customer service center at 1-888-624-2569.
