State Police: Hit & Run To Blame For Parkway East Accidents

MOON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - Police believe a mess on the Parkway East Monday morning was the result of a hit-and-run.

State police are continuing to investigate and look for the driver they claim caused two accidents this morning.

A Pittsburgh Post-Gazette delivery truck traveled across several lanes of traffic, over the jersey barrier and slammed into the guardrail before coming to a stop.

Police said a hit-and-run driver ran into both the truck and another vehicle.

"He attempted to pass those two vehicles at a high-rate of speed, hitting both the vehicles. The Acura lost control, hit the jersey barrier, came to a final rest," Trooper Robin Mungo said.

While the driver allegedly took off, the delivery truck kept going. It lost control and entered into the outbound lanes, which resulted in another accident.

A tractor-trailer and another vehicle had to swerve to avoid hitting the box truck head-on. As a result, they ended up hitting into each other.

"The tractor-trailer operator was alert. He saw that vehicle coming and he was able to avoid colliding with that vehicle. Unfortunately, he did collide with a [Honda Pilot] vehicle, but no one was hurt," Trooper Mungo said.

While crews worked to clear the Post-Gazette truck and the two other vehicles that had damage, traffic piled up on both sides of the Parkway just as the morning rush was starting to get underway.

State police are now putting together some details of the hit-and-run car they think caused the mess.

"A Suzuki XL7, which we think that it is, and it's a light-colored vehicle, either white or silver," Trooper Mungo said.

If you have any information on the driver or the vehicle possibly involved in these accidents, you are urged to call police.
