4-Year-Old Bitten By Pit Bull In Homewood

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A 4-year-old girl is home from the hospital after she was bitten by a Pit Bull in Homewood.

The incident happened in the 7100-block of Hermitage Street when Payton Martin went a few doors down from her home to visit a neighbor.

"I got bit by a dog," she told KDKA-TV.

The pit bull lunged at Payton's face.

"The dog was chained to the fence, the little girl walks down I guess perhaps to just come visit," a neighbor said.

The Pit Bull's owner was visiting as well and was sitting on the steps of the front porch when Payton came over.

"She walked over, the dog grabs at her face," the neighbor described. "She screams, he got her tongue too."

Neighbors called 911, but before police or animal control could arrive, the Pit Bull's owner took off with the dog.

"You sat there – literally sat there – and watched your dog attack her," the neighbor said. "It wasn't like you tried to stop the dog."

Payton was treated and released from Children's Hospital Wednesday.

"I just want them to find the gentleman and put that dog down," Tina Martin, Payton's grandmother, said. "It's not even his dog. I want that dog destroyed."
