Girl, 3, Critical After Being Pulled From Pool

MCKEESPORT (KDKA) - Friends and family rushed to aid a 3-year-old girl Monday afternoon after she was found unresponsive in a McKeesport pool.

McKeesport Police have now turned the investigation over to Allegheny Homicide Detectives as they continue to look into what happened.

Emergency responders and police swarmed the home on Cleveland Street after she was found unresponsive in the backyard pool.

The girl was rushed to McKeesport Hospital and later flown to Children's Hospital. According to our news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the little girl was last listed in critical condition.

"I just [saw] the grandmother come out like a raving maniac screaming. I [saw] them carrying her out. She was like a wet rag. It was horrible," Gloria Abraham, a neighbor, said.

Police are now trying to figure out how the child ended up in the pool unnoticed. KDKA-TV has learned that the toddler was visiting the home for a birthday celebration. As the partygoers were singing "Happy Birthday," they noticed the girl was missing.

"It's scary and it's just sad and I just hope this little girl makes it because I'd hate to see a little 3-year-old pass away," Danielle Dubyak, a neighbor, said.

Allegheny County Homicide says the investigation is ongoing.
