Red Line T Work To Conclude Tuesday Morning
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Commuters experienced some delays on the T today due to crews working on the Red Line.
That work will continue through the night as contractors do rail expansion joint work centered around the Traymore Stop in Beechview.
The project began Friday night, went through the weekend and continued today.
"It's work that takes a certain amount of time, from beginning to end and you can't cut it short in the middle of the job and leave the track in that condition. It just wouldn't be safe to travel," Port Authority Spokesperson Jim Ritchie said.
The work impacted commuters during rush hour, but not as much as expected.
"We were pretty much planning for a 10 to 15-minute delay going through the morning rush hour, but it turned out to be more of a 5 to 7-minute delay through the morning rush hour," Ritchie said.
Commuters were still able to get to where they needed to go and signs were posted at the stops with information and alternate routes.
As far as the timing of this project, it is expected to take three days.
So far, crews are right on track and they should be wrapped up by 4 a.m. Tuesday.
