Pharmacy Owner Disarms Robber in Youngwood
YOUNGWOOD -- Joseph Evans of Greensburg is in the Westmoreland County Prison, charged with armed robbery.
Evans, wearing a hoodie and mask, went to Hayden's Pharmacy on Route 199 in the Youngwood Borough demanding to be given drugs. Evans was armed with a gun, which later turned out to be a bee bee gun.
Pharmacy owner Ed Christafano wasn't aware what type of gun Evans had, but disarmed Evans in the altercation.
Christafano said he was worrying about the safety of his employees and customers rather than himself.
Evans initially fled with approximately $2,000 in drugs. However, state police quickly caught up to him and captured him while recovering the stolen drugs.
Evans is in jail on $25,000 bond. No shots were fired and nobody was hurt.
