Man Held For Court On Marijuana Growing Operation Charges

UNIONTOWN (KDKA) - Charges against the man accused of having a major marijuana growing operation inside his home has been held for court.

After a preliminary hearing Tuesday morning, Charles Smith, 51, will now head to trial.

Authorities said they found more than 200 plants inside his West Berkley Street home in Uniontown where he lived with his daughter and a lot of pets.

Code enforcement officers originally went to the house to look for unrelated violations when they discovered the plants.

"There's also various tubs, boxes full of marijuana, garbage bags full of marijuana ready to be processed," police said on April 26th.

Police confiscated $610,000 worth of marijuana.

"We never had any idea in this neighborhood that this activity was going on," a neighbor said.

Smith is out on bond. He had no comment for reporters.
