Contractor Killed In Industrial Accident At GE Plant

WEST MIFFLIN (KDKA) – The investigation continues after a man died Thursday morning at a General Electric plant in West Mifflin.

According to a spokesman with General Electric, a contractor died Thursday morning. However, the man was not a General Electric employee.

"The entire GE family extends its sympathies to those impacted," General Electric Turbine Cell Leader John Osman said.

Police were called to the GE Service Apparatus Center along Buttermilk Hollow Road around 8:30 a.m.

Authorities have identified the victim as 52-year-old John Hazel of Finleyville.

He was found wedged between a high lift and the ceiling. He had been installing brackets.

Allegheny County Police and the Medical Examiner's Office are investigating.

However, the Medical Examiner's Office believes Hazel likely died of natural causes.
