Crews Repair McKees Rocks Water Main Breaks

MCKEES ROCKS (KDKA) –Crews repaired two water main breaks in McKees Rocks.

According to officials at the scene, the 12-inch main broke around 7 a.m. on Island Avenue.

On a hot day, that meant people in the neighborhood had no water.

"It's horrible, it's horrible," Bob Woods said. "You got to shower, you got to drink, you got to do all [those] things you need water for."

There was another water main break on Chartiers Avenue.

The heat expansion over the last few days has just been too much for the aging pipes.

"They're well over 100 years old," McKees Rocks Fire Batallion Chief Chas Moritz said. "They're just old. … They seem to be breaking now more and more."

Water service was restored Thursday evening.
